Google Ads Now Show in AI Mode Abroad. Can You Track Them?

Google just took AI Mode ads to ten more countries. You can't opt out or see a separate report. Here are five checks to run before holiday spend starts.

Have you checked where your Google Ads are actually showing up this month? If you sell in Australia, Canada, India or Singapore, the answer just changed.

On October 28, 2026, Google announced that ads in AI Mode are rolling out to ten more countries. Brazil, Mexico and the UK are planned for later this quarter.

Here's the catch. You can't switch it on, you can't switch it off, and Google Ads won't show you a separate AI Mode report. Sound familiar? It's the same pattern as every automated placement before it.

This guide covers what changed, what you can and can't control, and the five checks I'd run before the holiday spend starts.

Key Takeaways

  • Google is bringing ads to AI Mode in Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, the Philippines, Pakistan and Singapore, with Brazil, Mexico and the UK planned for Q4.
  • Multiturn ads, which appear on follow-up questions inside an AI Mode conversation, have launched in the US only for now.
  • Eligible campaigns enter the normal auction automatically, so you have no separate opt-in, no separate budget and no separate opt-out.
  • AI Mode results are not reported on their own, so your search terms report and campaign totals are the only places the shift will show.
  • Google says click-through rates on sponsored and organic product list items are already similar in AI Mode, but that covers US product listings only.

What Google Actually Announced

The Google announcement, written by Shashi Thakur, says AI Mode ads are scaling to ten countries: Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Singapore.

Brazil, Mexico and the United Kingdom are next, planned for Q4 2026. Ads carry a "Sponsored" label, and Google says it will keep testing new formats.

The second piece is multiturn ads. As Search Engine Roundtable reports, a Google spokesperson said "Multiturn ads show up on responses to follow-up user queries." That means an ad can appear on the second or third question in a conversation, not just the first. It's a US launch only for now.

Why Longer Questions Change Your Ad Strategy

Google says AI Mode queries are, on average, three times longer than traditional searches. That figure comes from Google's AI Mode Report for the US, May 2026, as cited in its announcement.

A longer query isn't a keyword. It's a full question with context in it: budget, location, a problem, a comparison.

So the person who asks "which accountant helps a small online shop with VAT in Canada" is closer to a decision than the person who types "accountant". Your ad is being matched to a conversation, not a phrase.

The practical effect: your keyword list matters less than your landing page and your ad assets. If the page doesn't answer the question, the click is wasted.

What You Can Control (and What You Can't)

The details here come from a Relevant Audience breakdown of Google's own help material, so check your own account before acting on any one line.

Here's the short version of the rules:

  • Eligible by default: existing Search, Shopping and Performance Max campaigns can serve in AI Overviews and AI Mode with no new campaign.
  • Broad reach needs broad settings: AI Max for Search and broad match can serve on direct and contextual matches. Exact and phrase match serve only on queries with direct commercial intent.
  • No separate switch: you can't target AI Mode alone, or opt out of it separately from Search.
  • Your guardrails still work: negative keywords, brand exclusions and asset pinning still apply.
  • Same pricing model: bidding is the same CPC or conversion-based setup, with no extra charge.
  • English only for now: the listed markets are served in English.

One more limit worth knowing: advertisers can't write, edit or opt out of the AI-generated explainer text that can appear next to ads.

The Reporting Gap Is the Real Problem

AI Mode isn't reported separately. Its numbers are folded into your campaign totals and your search terms report.

That makes your search terms report the early warning system. Longer, conversational queries showing up there are your clue that AI Mode is feeding the campaign.

If cost per lead moves after November 1 and you changed nothing, this is the first place to look. Without a before and after note, you'll be guessing.

AI Mode Ad Checks in Action: A Quick Example

Picture a Toronto home-services company running one Search campaign with exact and phrase keywords, plus a Performance Max campaign. This is a worked scenario, not a client story.

The five steps look like this:

  1. Export the search terms report for October. Note the average query length and the top 20 terms.
  2. Export the same report for the second half of November and compare. Longer, question-style queries mean AI Mode traffic is arriving.
  3. Check which landing pages those queries land on. A generic homepage is a red flag.
  4. Compare conversion rate and cost per lead for those queries against your short, direct ones.
  5. Add negative keywords for questions that are clearly research only, and keep brand exclusions up to date.

None of this needs a new campaign. It needs a baseline and a habit.

Five Checks to Run Before Holiday Spend

1. Write down your baseline

Save October's cost per lead, conversion rate and top search terms today. You can't spot a shift you never measured.

2. Make landing pages answer questions

Add a short, direct answer near the top, then the detail. Pages that respond to a full question convert better when the query is a full question.

3. Review your asset pinning

Pinning still applies, so make sure pinned headlines read well when the surrounding conversation is unfamiliar to you.

4. Tighten your negatives

Longer queries bring more irrelevant matches. Review the search terms report weekly through the holiday period.

5. Set a tracking note

Log the date you first notice conversational queries in each country. When results move, you'll know what else changed.

Where This Breaks Down

Be careful with the headline claim. Google's statement that click-through rates are "already similar" between sponsored and organic product list items covers US product listings from August 20 to September 3, 2026. Relevant Audience notes it gives no click-through, conversion, CPC or revenue data for text ads.

So if you run lead generation with text ads, you have no proof yet that AI Mode traffic converts like classic Search. Treat it as an unknown, not a win.

Market details also differ by source. Google's help page says its market list may not be exhaustive, and some countries get limited formats. Check your own account.

FAQs

Can I opt out of ads in AI Mode?

No. Advertisers can't opt out of AI Overviews or AI Mode separately from Search. Your control comes from campaign type, match types, negatives, brand exclusions and asset pinning, which still apply.

Do I need AI Max to show in AI Mode?

Not necessarily. Existing Search, Shopping and Performance Max campaigns are eligible automatically. AI Max and broad match widen the matching to contextual queries, while exact and phrase match serve only on direct commercial intent.

Will I see AI Mode as its own report?

No. AI Mode metrics are included in aggregate campaign reports and the search terms report, with no separate segment. Watch query length and wording in search terms to spot the shift.

Are multiturn ads available outside the US?

Not yet. Multiturn ads, which show on follow-up questions, launched in the US only. Google hasn't said when or whether they'll reach the other markets announced this week.

Conclusion

The idea to remember: you now advertise inside conversations, and you can't switch that off or see it in its own report.

This week, save your baseline numbers, read your search terms report for longer queries, and make your key landing pages answer a full question near the top.
