Google Business Home Is Here. Is Your Profile Ready for It?

Google is testing Business Home, a Gemini-powered hub for your Business Profile, plus new reports and higher Posts. Here's who gets it and how to prepare.

When did you last log in to your Google Business Profile and actually change something?

For a lot of owners the honest answer is "a while ago". The profile gets set up, the hours get fixed once, and a few reviews pile up unanswered. Meanwhile Google keeps rebuilding the tools around it.

Over the past two weeks it has done that again. Google is beta-testing a new hub called Business Home, testing a rebuilt performance report, and pushing Google Posts back up the local panel. Sound familiar? Every few months there's a new dashboard to learn.

This post explains what is actually changing, who can use it today, and the short checklist that makes your profile ready whether or not you get an invite.

Key Takeaways

  • Google Business Home is a closed beta that pulls your Business Profile, Merchant Center, YouTube and Google Ads accounts into one Gemini-powered hub.
  • It's only open to select business categories in the US and the UK, and eligible businesses are invited by email, so you can't sign up for it yet.
  • To qualify you need a verified profile and fewer than 10 locations for the same business, so multi-location brands are mostly left out for now.
  • Google is also testing a rebuilt performance report with engagement, reviews, audience and search trends, which could replace today's thin numbers.
  • Google Posts are being tested higher on the local knowledge panel again, which gives a small, free reason to start posting regularly.

What Is Google Business Home?

Google's own help page calls Business Home "a growth partner built with Gemini models that connects your essential business tools". In plain words: one place to manage how your business shows up across Google, instead of hopping between four products.

According to Google's help document, the beta covers four jobs:

  • Content creation: AI-assisted content and photo tools, with you keeping control of what gets published.
  • Location management: update hours and reply to reviews without leaving the hub.
  • Growth guidance: prioritised next steps based on your business data.
  • Customer messaging: AI-powered messaging through RCS for Business, so customers can get answers to common questions.

Search Engine Roundtable's report from October 22, 2026 adds that the screens include Posts, Reviews, Performance, Locations, a Brand Kit and a Creative Lab. Google says that over time it will add cross-service insights, such as spotting demand surges and suggesting seasonal offers.

That's the pitch. Now the fine print.

Who Can Actually Use It Right Now?

Not most people. Google's help page says Business Home is "currently a closed beta experience, available only to select business categories in the US and the UK". Eligible businesses get an email invitation.

To qualify, Google lists these requirements:

  • An active Google Account and a business based in the US or UK.
  • A verified Business Profile that you own or manage, with fewer than 10 locations for the same business.
  • One type of business per account. A restaurant and a retail shop under one login isn't supported yet.
  • You can link one YouTube channel, one Google Ads account and one Merchant Center account.
  • Your account and business must follow Google's policies.

So the sweet spot is a single-business owner with a handful of locations. Large chains and agencies juggling many unrelated clients are not the target yet.

A Better Performance Report Is Being Tested

A day later, on October 23, Search Engine Roundtable reported a test of a rebuilt performance section in Business Profiles. It has an Overview with top recommendations, plus Engagement, Reviews, Audience and Search Trends sections.

The reporter, Barry Schwartz, said it "seems like a very big improvement" over the current report, though he couldn't see the test himself and relied on screenshots from other users. Treat it as a test, not a launch.

Why care? Because today most owners judge their profile on calls and direction requests alone. Audience and search-trend data would show what people look for before they find you.

Google Posts Are Moving Back Up

This one is easy to miss and cheap to use. Search Engine Roundtable reported on October 19 that Google is testing a higher position for Posts on the local knowledge panel. Posts had been pushed to the bottom in 2018.

Local SEO consultant Ben Fisher, who spotted it, saw posts rise and then drop back about three days later. So it's a test with a moving position, not a permanent change.

Still, a free update box that might sit nearer the top of your listing is worth a few minutes a week.

What Business Home Looks Like in Practice

Picture a dentist with two locations, a YouTube channel and a small Google Ads budget. Today that's four logins and four sets of numbers. In Business Home, the same owner would see posts, reviews and performance on one screen, with Google suggesting what to do first.

That's a scenario built from Google's own description, not a result anyone has measured. Nobody has published data yet on whether the hub improves rankings, calls or sales.

What it does clearly change is effort. If the hub makes posting and replying quick, more of your competitors will do it. The bar for a "normal" local profile goes up.

A 30-Minute Checklist Before You Get an Invite

You can't control the invitation. You can control the data the hub will build on. Do this now:

  1. Confirm verification. Business Home requires a verified profile, so fix any pending verification first.
  2. Check the basics. Name, address, phone, hours (including holidays) and categories should match your website exactly.
  3. Answer your reviews. Aim for a short, specific reply to every recent review, good or bad.
  4. Link your accounts. Make sure the right person owns your Google Ads, YouTube and Merchant Center accounts, since the hub connects them.
  5. Add one post. An offer, an event or a new service. Then repeat weekly.
  6. Update photos. Real photos of your premises, team and work beat stock images.

If you run more than one location, also check that each one has its own page on your site. Our Local SEO services work covers exactly that groundwork, and a digital marketing audit is a quick way to see what's out of date.

Where This Breaks Down

Be careful with the AI parts. Google says you keep creative control over generated content, and you should use it. Posts and replies that sound identical to every other business's help nobody.

Also, don't rebuild your whole routine around a closed beta. Features in test often change or vanish. If you aren't invited, nothing is lost: the checklist above helps your normal profile either way.

And if you manage 10 or more locations, or several unrelated businesses, this beta isn't built for you yet. Wait for the wider rollout.

FAQs

What is Google Business Home?

It's a beta hub from Google that connects your Business Profile, Merchant Center, YouTube and Google Ads accounts. Google describes it as built with Gemini models. It helps you create content, manage locations and reviews, get prioritised advice and use AI-powered customer messaging in one place.

How do I get access to Google Business Home?

You can't apply. Google says it's a closed beta for select business categories in the US and the UK, and eligible businesses receive an email invitation. Make sure your profile is verified and has fewer than 10 locations, since those are listed requirements.

Does Business Home improve my local rankings?

There's no evidence yet. Google hasn't claimed it affects rankings, and no independent data has been published. The likely benefit is time saved on posts, replies and reporting. Better habits, like faster review replies and regular posts, are what may help your visibility.

Do Google Posts help my Business Profile?

Google is testing a higher position for Posts on the local knowledge panel, as reported on October 19, 2026. That could mean more people see them. The test position moves, so treat Posts as a cheap way to keep your listing fresh, not a guaranteed boost.

Conclusion

The idea to remember: Google is making Business Profiles easier to run, which means more of your competitors will run them well. A neglected profile gets more expensive over time.

This week, verify your profile, reply to every open review and publish one post. It takes about half an hour.
